WHEN THE BREACH OCCURED on the Llangollen Canal, there was conflicting information as to exactly where it was.

Llangollen SinkholeWas it on the Whitchurch Arm or the main Llangollen Canal?

Not stating

With the earlier notice from Canal & River Trust not stating, though the latest one tells the navigation is closed between Hurleston locks to Povey's locks, putting the breach on the Llangollen Canal itself, it telling:

'Due to a breach that occurred today at Bridge 31A on the Whitchurch By-Pass Bridge, Llangollen Canal, our teams need to close the lock flight between Povey's Lock and Hurleston Locks'.

Alfred Overton, who supplied the picture tells It's Grindley brook side of the lift bridge so not affecting the arm. Some other photos show the lift bridge just 'above' the breach.

No water for Hurleston Reservoir

This means there is no longer any feed of water to the Hurleston Reservoir as the waterway as its main feed is from Llangollen.

It the past pumps and pipes have been installed to carry the water past a breach, that is most likely what will happen now.

The BBC did not help matters by telling that a 50 metres (164ft!) boat was in the hole and one washed into the field—which wasn't. Picture by Shropshire Fire & Rescue.
