TEMPORARY DAMS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED closer to the breach to reduce the length of the Llangollen Canal remaining dry while repair plans are developed.
Water pumped back
Water has been pumped back into the dammed sections and levels are now recovering, Keith Gudgin reports.
The boats that were left on the bottom of the drained waterway have now refloated.
The boat that was at immediate risk at the edge of the breach (seen in Alfred Overton's photograph) has been safely recovered using specialist equipment and is now secured nearby.
There are two boats still within the breach on the Whitchurch Arm that are still to be recovered.
The trust state that engineers have begun detailed investigations into the cause of the embankment failure and will continue this work into the new year.
Subject to regular inspection
It tells the the embankment is subject to a regular inspection regime by the trust's specialist inspectors and engineers, as is routine for all its assets!
And adds that understanding exactly what caused the embankment to be undermined will inform the preparation of a repair plan for the process of rebuilding and reopening the canal.
