WARE LOCK ON THE LEE NAVIGATION is still 'suspended due to essential repair works that need to be carried out at the lock'.

WareLockAssessing designs

At present the Environment Agency is 'currently assessing design options for the repairs required at the lock following recent inspections', Janet Friend reports.

As yet, there is no confirmed timeline for the necessary works to commence.

Canal & River Trust are in contact with the agency and as soon as the information is provided it will inform users of the state of the navigation. In the meantime, the lock will remain closed to all navigation.

As the lock is owned and also maintained by the Environment Agency, Canal & River Trust are reliant on the agency completing its assessment and any necessary repairs before the lock can be reopened for navigation.

Due to safety concerns

It was on Wednesday 21st January that the lock was closed to navigation, and we were told it was due to safety concerns, but not informed what these were, only that repair works needed to be carried out at the lock.

As the information is that there will be an update on Friday 20th February, it doesn't look so good for it being a quick repair.
