WORK HAS STARTED TODAY, MONDAY, to dismantle the Broad Street Bridge over the Erewash Canal at Long Eaton.
The footbridge is over 100 years old with little headroom for walkers, Janet Friend reports.
This bridge was closed in November last year in preparation for the work, with the canal towpath closed
A suspension arch will be a feature of the new bridge together with a balustrade with reference to Long Eaton's lace-making industry. The image shows an artist's impression.
Waterside Terrace
A waterside terrace will also feature that will be suitable for staging events.
There is to be a second bridge installed over the canal at Britannia Mills that will be craned in later this month.
The money for all this work comes from Long Eaton's £25m Town Deal, announced in 2021, that will see a number of projects that will be funded by the government.
