Seeing your article on the Winkwell Swing Bridge which mentioned the need for cameras, writes Ian Waters.

WinkwellI believe the problem is excessive speed on the approach to the swing bridge. 

Perhaps the installation of road humps or 'sleeping policemen' as they are known, might be a solution and prevent damage in the first place. 

This would involve the local highway authority , but if Canal & River Trust were to liaise and offer to share the cost  then perhaps something could be achieved here, and  at other bridges prone to bridge strikes?
