THE LEICESTER SECTION OF THE Grand Union Canal will be closed for two months this year.
And during the boating season, Keith Gudgin reports.
Canal & River Trust tell that it is carrying out essential improvements at Cossington Lock 48, including the replacement of the top and bottom lock gates.
And to complete this work safely, a stoppage will be in place from 7th September to 23rd October 2026.
Affected by flooding
The trust tells that previous stoppages on this section have been significantly affected by flooding, leading to unavoidable delays.
These dates have been carefully selected to minimise the risk of further disruption from adverse weather and to help ensure the works can be completed efficiently.
