THE GRAND UNION CANAL was closed at Harefield yesterday, Friday.

This was at Copper Mill Lock, 84, Keith Gudgin reports.

By a paddle problem.

But comes the long forgotten excuse, that it was caused by vandals.

Stopped earlier this year

An excuse that was used so often in the past that it was stopped earlier this year as so often the excuse was used where vandals could not possibly have caused the stoppage.

Whatever, the towpath ground paddle above Copper Mill Lock means the lock is no longer able to equalise.

With engineers in the process of determining what is required to fix the ground paddle. It seems it will not be repaired over the weekend as Tuesday has been given for an update.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal

The Huddersfield Narrow Canal is also closed—see separate article.
