OWING to the Environment Agency's Waterways Investment Programme, 12 locks will benefit during the next few months.
Altogether £2.9 millions will be spent on lock repairs during the winter stoppage period, part of a long term programme to keep the locks in good condition, Alan Tilbury reveals.
Long term programme
The work is part of a long-term programme to maintain the locks in good condition, with further work scheduled for the Spring and Summer.
Paul Power, Environment Agency Waterways Engineer explained:
"This means we have a full programme of works, to keep the Thames working to a high standard, which means that we can continue to provide an excellent level of service for boaters, businesses and the wider community"
Closures
However this also means that from November there will be lock closures that are listed.

- Shifford 1 November 2011 to 20 December 2011
- Iffley 30 January 2012 to 17 February 2012
- Days 1 November 2011 to 20 December 2011
- Benson 1 November 2011 to 16 March 2012
- Hambleden 1 November 2011 to 12 January 2012
- Marlow 1 November 2011 to 5 December 2011
- Chertsey 1 November 2011 to 16 March 2012
- Sunbury 9 January 2012 to 24 February 2012
As part of this first programme other work will be carried out, but will not incur stoppages.
