THIEVES are targeting outboard boat engines on the Bridgewater Canal, the latest taken this week.
On Bank Holiday Monday night a nearly new Suzuki 25HP outboard motor was stolen from a Viking 23 cruiser on the Bridgewater Canal at Stockton Heath, David King writes.
The owner, who is aware, left the boat near to Thorn Marine on Sunday for a repair. The boat was moored about 50 yards South from the company.
Cut cables
The boat was last checked okay at 9pm Monday. The thieves removed the engine and steering gear complete, cleanly cutting the various cables. The area was full of moored boats at the time and at this point there are houses on both sides of the canal. The police have been informed.
In addition to this theft, we have been told another outboard engine was taken off a boat moored at Lymn, but it is not known when as the boat was unattended.
