THE ROCHDALE NINE in Manchester is a boon for magnet fishers turned treasure hunters.
Having a field day
With the canal drained they are having a field day, Janet Friend reports.
They are now able to stand on the bed of the empty canal through the city, searching for treasure in the silt and debris.
And from all accounts actually finding it with ancient bottles, pipes, jewellery and even mobile phones.
In certain places' where there is easy access to the canal, is the junk that people have slung in the canal, with the usual shopping trolley, etc, but not so much as expected for it appears that Canal & River Trust has been clearing it out.
Dead fish
But alas many fish have been left in the empty pounds, with just a few swimming around in small puddles that have appeared.
There has been an attempt to catch the fish, but the many empty pounds have made it an impossible task.
