TUEL LOCK at the eastern start of the Rochdale Canal will be closed for the Bank Holiday.
With the Manchester end now drained, there is no way on or off the navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.
Canal & River Trust tell it is not going to be able to give assisted passage through Tuel Lock on Bank Holiday Monday as it had hoped, because the water is simply too low and the pounds are too big to recover.
No longer navigable
Also the pounds between locks 9 and 19, where passage has been allowed on a Friday, is no longer navigable owing to low water, and so is closed.
At least the trust aims to attempt to fix the leak at Lock 2, that is draining the canal, starting on the 26th August.
