NORTHGATE BOTTOM LOCK on the Shropshire Union Canal failed yesterday.
This was due to a broken paddle, Keith Gudgin reports.
The Canal & River Trust team were quick on the scene to carry out the repair, but this was unsuccessful.
Closed
This of course means the Shropshire Union Canal is closed through Chester.
It is expected that the team will be back again today and the lock reopened for navigation.
