THERE is a scheme to surround the town of Maidenhead with a moat, described as a network of waterways.
The 'visionaries' of the idea have now raised enough money to pay for an environmental impact assessment, to see if the scheme is feasible, with some already completed, at a cost of £80,000.

Richard Davenport, Chairman of Trustees for the Maidenhead Waterways Restoration Group explained:
"There has been nothing so far that threatens the technical feasibility of the scheme, and nothing has been thrown at us that could be a show stopper."
He expects an application for the first phase to create a moat, that could be used by canoes and kayaks to be ready by the Spring.
It is expected to cost over £4 millions!
