THERE is a 47ft Harborough Marine narrowboat for sale on eBay that at present has 36 bids with the highest at only £2,250.
The owner bought the boat second-hand three years ago and started work to re-fit it out, installing a BMC 1.5 diesel, working on it on the Avon at Bath, Alan Tilbury tells us.
One problem
It was built in 1979, has a steel hull with a wooden and fibreglass roof, but alas there is just one problem—it cannot be viewed, as it is sunk in about eight feet of water! The picture shows just a part of the cabin roof showing.
It sank in the floods on the Avon in February of this year, and though the cause is not known it is thought debris hit the propeller that caused a leak in the stern gland allowing in water, and there was no emergency pump installed.
This morning (Thursday) the highest bid was £2,250, with the auction closing on Sunday. However it will be left for the winning bidder to raise the boat then move it to moorings, as prospective bidders have been warned.
