VERY good news for boaters and hire companies is that though the original repair to the Macclesfield Canal at Bollington failed, (Macclesfield breach repair hasn't held) the canal is still open.
At the moment there are no plans to install stop planks and drain the pound, though it has been confirmed that another hole has been discovered that was missed during the original investigation of the breach.
Large hole
Since the repair, water was soon found to be gushing out of the canal on to the Bollington recreation ground, caused by what is described as a 'large hole' but we are told this has been successfully filled and the flow stopped.
In view of the further hole appearing, contractors are remaining on site to monitor the situation is case further problems occur. Canal & River Trust is however optimistic that the current repair will solve the leakage for the waterway.
