THE 51st rally of the Federation of Bridgewater Cruising Clubs was hosted by the Bridgewater Motor Boat Club this year and had good support and attendance, writes Hilary Foster.
The event held over four days was helped by glorious weather which made the theme of childrens' story book characters come to life. It was attended this year by the five clubs from along the Bridgewater Canal.
Fancy dress
At the Saturday evening show nearly every one of the audience was dressed in fancy dress while the photographer Dougie Wildman had his genie costume specially made for him while on holiday in Dominica. His picture shows Nautical Dream winner of the Trimmest Craft and Crew.
The Sunday prize giving also included the Mayor of Halton, Ged Philbin, and his consort Ros Wong. Also present was the leader of Halton Borough Council, Rob Polhill, and his wife Sandra. There were also representatives from Peel Holdings, owners of the Bridgewater Canal Co.
First encounter
The guests took a trip along the canal in Runcorn to see all the boats which were dressed to the theme of the story book characters. For the Mayor this was his first encounter with the canals and he was amazed to see how beautiful it was so near to the town.
