IN ADDITION to the closure of the Aston Flight into Birmingham, the alternative via the Garrison Flight is also now closed.
This time it is a structure by the side of the bottom lock on the Grand Union at Bordesley that is blamed for the closure, with the flight being closed until the structure is made safe, Keith Gudgin tells us.
'Summer stoppage'
The stoppage on the Aston Flight we are told is part of the new description of a 'summer stoppage', though of course no prior notice was given as in the winter stoppages.
With both routes into the city closed, Canal & River Trust is suggesting using the Tame Valley and Main Line canals to get into the city from the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal—a very long way indeed. 18 miles instead of just three!
