TWO dogs have been discovered drowned in the Leeds & Liverpool Canal during May, obviously thrown in to be killed as weights were tied to them.
It was a terrier that was found in the waterway near Bootle and a Pomeranian named Milo that was discovered near Wigan, Alan Tilbury tells us.
Reported
Both had had weights attached to their harnesses to hold them under the water whilst they drowned. Both dogs however were discovered near the bank and reported to the authorities.
The one found near Wigan was micro-chipped, hence its name being discovered, but the chip was out of date. It was estimated at five years old and had been in the water about two weeks, an officer for the RSPCA revealed.
Further dogs
It is not of course known if there are further dogs, as heavier weights would have kept the animals lower in the water and out of sight.
This is a terrible way to end a dog's life, especially at the young age of five years, and surely they could have been offered for someone to take them in or at least put down painlessly.
