IT IS expected that the repairs to Lock 46 on the Barrowford Flight on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal will be completed by next Wednesday, and the waterway reopened.
Investigations discovered that a hole beneath the lock floor had caused the concrete that supports the bottom of the gates to lift up, making the lock unsafe to operate as it may fail suddenly whilst in use, and so the flight was closed
New concrete
Contractors are working to remove the concrete, fill the void and replace with new concrete, working over the week-end to get the waterway reopened.
It is the necessary hardening of the concrete that will take time once it is laid, but it is expected all will be complete and the flight open by Wednesday.
