BY HISTORICAL anomaly the Bridgewater is the only connecting route between CaRT waters in the North and the rest of the country, writes John Lloyd.

The only alternative is a 300 plus miles and 190 lock detour involving the tidal Trent or a crossing of the Mersey, and the use of the Manchester Ship Canal.

Impractical

As boaters based on the Leeds & Liverpool at Scarisbrick, if we wish to visit e.g. Middlewich, we have to return with seven days (impractical if not impossible) or extend our visit to 28 days which involves finding temporary moorings with access to public transport.

The post of waterways minister appears to be vacant—how can we campaign against this unjust and nonsensical imposition?
