WITH the re-opening of the towpath along the Avon in Bath after widening and resurfacing, more railing have been erected.
The railing are the result of an outcry at the high number of people drowning in the river—eight since 2009 (Two more Avon drownings) owing to the lack of protection, Alan Tilbury tells us.
New railings
The much-delayed Destructor Bridge that is being constructed will also have new railings when completed.
Many of the drownings are caused by drunks staggering off the towpath into the river, and it is expected that the extra railings will prevent so many deaths.
