I REALLY must ask that after the repair to the last major breach failed, is anyone really surprised at the  one on the Macc [Macclesfield Canal] only lasting a week? Asks Terry Palmer.

I'm certainly not, and it rather shows the standard of repairs these days now that Canal & Trust has got rid of its experienced workers and set on obviously inexperienced contractors.

Specialist attention

It might be alright setting on contractors to do the work they are used to, such as building, but the canals require very specialist attention, and require people who know what they are doing not contractors who haven't a clue, as the quick failure on the breach on the canal shows.

And if the never ending closures, week after week are anything to go by, it really is time that a specialist team be formed by Canal & River Trust, that can gain experience, and thus get 'stuck-in' and have these closures shortened to a few days instead of weeks, as they are now.

Holidays being ruined

Doesn't Canal & River Trust realise that the less and less boats on the canals has a lot to do with holidays being ruined by all these lengthy closures, with both hirers and regulars taking their holidays elsewhere where they can be guaranteed, as they certainly cannot on the canals of today.
