Those people who report dogs in distress in boats must confuse narrowboats with cars reporting that no window was left open!

Having two dogs I do leave windows open though really only necessary on the hot days, of which there are very few.

I had an argument with someone who saw me put my two in the boat after they (the dogs!) took me for a walk, and remonstrated that they should not have been left alone in the boat but taken with me!

He really was stupid, and had no answer when I pointed out that there were virtually no shops that allowed in dogs, and only the big supermarkets have provision for fastening them outside, where I told him I would not leave mine as some one could easily take a fancy and take them.

I pointed to my nearly full length narrowboat and asked him if perhaps it was a little more roomy for the dogs than a kennel, at which he went off muttering.
