A man and a woman have been sentenced to prison, suspended, after throwing a dog tied in a plastic bag into a canal that then suffocated.
This occurred at Brierfield on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
With Terrence Boyd and Sadie Boyd appearing at Burnley Magistrates' Court and pleading guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and breaching part of the Animal Welfare Act 2006. That is the duty of a person responsible to ensure animal welfare.
Disqualified
The pair were each sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.
And have each been disqualified from owning or keeping animals for a period of 10 years.
