THIS AFTERNOON, SATURDAY, a massive oak tree fell and crushed a moored narrowboat.

This happened at the moorings by Wolsely Bridge on the Trent & Mersey Canal.

Causing it to sink

The fire brigade was called as it is understood that the impact of the massive tree, the trunk measured 3ft across, was causing the badly damaged boat to sink.

Our friends, Steph and Dan White, had just arrived in their narrowboat just ten minutes before this occurred, with Steph telling us:

"The poor chap was in the boat when it fell and is in shock with his boat in a right mess."

The name of his boat is Marcellus, with the boat being crushed by the tree with its roof  caved in as rests on the top of the boat.

It is understood that it will be Monday before anything is done.
